Sogol Khalkhalian
My name is Sogol Khalkhalian, and I'm an adventurer, documentary filmmaker, yogini and fashion designer.
How It Began
I was born in 1980 in Tehran, Iran, where I lived and studied graphic design; Though I’ve never liked my discipline in college. Never content to just sit down and study what I had to, I was always the trouble child, getting into trouble doing things I shouldn’t do in places I shouldn’t be. It was these rebellious behaviors that prompted my mother to send me to Yoga classes, hoping it would calm my more trouble making side. But that too simply became a medium for me to express myself, to show to the world who I am, to get in trouble in places I shouldn’t be, doing things I shouldn’t do.
Become A Yogini
Yoga, for me, may have started as just an exercise, but soon it turned into something more. Yoga made me more connected to the universe around me and taught me how to be happy in my own solitude. Yoga also served as the first true inpiration for me to take up a life of adventure, traveling, for the first time on my own, to Thailand to meet my master. It was then and there that I decided, this was the life I wanted for myself.
Journey Continues
As I delved deeper and into Yoga and becoming a Yogini, I learned that it was not the environment or the atmosphere that mattered, but to explore one’s self and one’s soul. Through Yoga I tried to get to know myself, who I was, what I wanted and most importantly, what I wanted to do in life. I decided what I wanted most in life was to overcome the fears that I had been living with, to face challenges beyond my abilities and to overcome them; To dive in the ocean, to go sledding with wild dogs or to sail in Antarctic storms.
